Herbert R. Axelrod, a millionaire philanthropist, is best known for his sale of a collection of rare violins to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra at a large discount. Subsidizing art is not Axelrod's only pastime, however, according to The New York Times. He recently fled the country in order to evade charges of federal tax fraud. Currently in Havana, Cuba, he is charged with using a Swiss bank account to hide hundreds of thousands of dollars. Axelrod, if convicted, could receive up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
