Statistics Norway, the Norwegian state statistics agency, said on Thursday (23 March) that 55% of the Norwegian population used the Internet on an average day in 2005, an increase of 11 percentage points from 2004.

At the same time newspaper reading and radio listening decreased, while book reading increased.

The portion of people who watch television on an average day had changed little during 2005, up to 85% from 83% in 2004.

Some 26% of those who listened to sound players on an average day in 2005 used an MP3 player. More than every third Norwegian now has an MP3 player, the agency said.
